Car seat recalls: where to look
Last reviewed November 1, 2026
Car seats are handled by NHTSA
Most children's products are covered by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, but car seats and other vehicle equipment are covered by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Family Recall Brief focuses on CPSC and FDA notices, so check NHTSA directly for car seats.
Where to look
Search by the car seat's brand and model at nhtsa.gov/recalls. You can also check the maker's website.
Find the label
Car seats carry a label with the manufacturer, model name or number and the manufacture date. You need these to match a notice. The same label usually lists how long the manufacturer says the seat can be used.
Register your seat
Car seats come with a registration card. Register by mail or online so the maker can contact you directly if there is a recall.
Follow the notice
Recall notices explain what to do and whether the seat can still be used in the meantime. Follow that notice and contact the company for the remedy it offers.
