Hyperfuels methanol and ethanol fuel containers recalled
September 24, 2026 ยท Source: U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission
What it is
Hyperfuels Methanol and Ethanol Fuel Containers are being recalled. The containers violate several federal safety standards.
The hazard
The containers lack the flame mitigation devices required for portable fuel containers, which poses a deadly flame jetting hazard. The methanol container is also not child-resistant as required, which poses a risk of serious injury or death if young children swallow the contents. The containers also do not meet federal labeling requirements.
Check if you own it
Look for Hyperfuels Methanol and Ethanol Fuel Containers. They were sold at The Asylum Automotive Store in Houston, Texas, and online at Hyperfuels.com and Amazon.com from May 2024 through May 2026 for about $4. About 124 were sold.
What to do
Stop using the fuel containers immediately. Contact Hyperfuels for a full refund or a replacement product. You will be asked to destroy the container by writing "RECALLED" on it in permanent marker and sending a photo to sales@hyperfuels.com. Then dispose of the recalled product following local and/or state disposal procedures. Dispose of the recalled methanol and ethanol fuel according to local and state regulations. You can contact your local hazardous waste treatment center or ask about professional recycling points. Do not dispose of methanol or ethanol in sewers, rainwater pipes or ordinary garbage cans.
